Today there is no doubt that stress is on the rise. Our bodies and minds are pushed to the limit with busy schedules, family life, work, social activities, running around, not to mention the impact of being online and needing to keep up with our profiles there as well. It's hard getting back into exercise.
Exercise is of course an excellent way to increase our stamina and fitness and help reduce stress for our body and mind. What I often see come up today though, is the impact of different types of exercise on our bodies.
You see, each form of exercise has its own benefits and any exercise is better than none! So certainly getting back into exercise and moving in one way or another, your health depends on it.
There are situations though where the higher impact types of movement may not be suitable for you. Let’s say you have had an injury, an illness, a bad knee or hip, or a long break from exercise. Your walking may have even been impaired, so even getting out for this simple activity could be difficult or impossible. These are just some of the factors which could deter you from any getting back into exercise at all, let alone doing fast, high impact jumping and loaded movements.

After I had my first baby it was super tricky getting back into exercise. In fact, I couldn’t walk properly for three months, had abdominal separation and back pain.
I wanted to walk, but even going up the driveway was hard for so long!
Not only that, but the time I used to have for exercise was reduced by at least half or more. Realistically, getting in 10 minutes was a huge achievement of just some light bodyweight exercises.
Then it dawned on me.
Why was I worrying about this and stressing about getting out with the baby all the time? I love exercising at home at my own convenience, so I got a Vitality4life WalkSlim Home Treadmill.
Now, as a personal trainer who needed to get back into exercise myself I knew I needed to get my cardio up again to shed a few kilos, get fitter and build up my body again without any heavy loads or impact.
Running was out of the question due to a back injury and weakened pelvic floor, plus I much preferred walking anyway.
As soon as I got this treadmill I loved it.
Why? Because it was simple to set up and use to exercise at home.
Where did Pilates all begin?
Joseph Hubertus Pilates was born in Germany in 1883. As a child, Joe suffered many ailments including asthma so he turned to exercise and athletics to help. He studied various exercise routines and was transfixed with the idea of the classical Greek ideal of man with a balanced mind, body and spirit. Hence Pilates was born.
In 1912 Joe went to the U.K working as a defense instructor at Scotland Yard but at the outbreak of World War I he was interned as an “enemy alien”. Rather than wallow he refined his ideas by training other internees by rigging springs to hospital beds to enable patients to exercise against resistance. These contraptions were the innovation behind later equipment designs.
In 1926 Joe headed to America meeting his wife Clara along the way. When they arrived they opened a studio near the New York ballet. This lead to many dancers and other athletes becoming his clients. Some of those clients then went on to open their own studios throughout the U.S.
Then Hollywood came calling and where the stars go the media follows. The pilates business boomed and entered the fitness mai
If you are anything like me when I hear that I have to exercise only "30 minutes a day' it makes me want to go and lie down. Half an hour can sometimes seem like an eternity especially when you are working out. So if I am going to do it I want to do it right and get the most out of my walking treadmill. I am sure you would too.
These tips may seem obvious to some but they weren't to me so I thought I would share them with other like minded souls. Good luck...
Good walking posture
Apparently, this is really important. No looking down at your phone the whole time and you must let go of the walking treadmill handrails, sorry. If you have to be entertained whilst walking you will have to prop up your device so that you are looking straight ahead otherwise it can lead to back and neck pain. We want to breathe deep down into our bellies as we walk and run and bad posture will hinder that.
When you hang on to the handrails the whole time it reduces the effort you are putting in and therefore the amount of calories you might be trying to lose. Your feet and legs need to be carrying your weight to gain more from your workout.
So, before you hop on the treadmill give yourself a quick check over, roll your shoulders a few times, pull in your tummy a bit and tuck in your bum whilst tilting
One small step with your WalkSlim walking treadmill..
... a giant leap for your health. Even the politicians know this. Ex Prime Minister John Howard wasn't using a walking treadmill fifteen years ago but everyone of a certain age remembers his early morning walks in a funny tracksuit. He started a national campaign urging Australians to take the time to walk at least 30 minutes a day. This year Malcolm Turnbull helped launch the 'One Million Steps' Campaign. Why is walking so important?
Mr Howard found out that across Australia, 1,400 deaths from heart disease and diabetes could be prevented and a total or $76 million in measurable health care costs could be saved each year if just 10% of Australian adults walked more regularly. So we do need to get walking as even now one person dies every twelve minutes in Australia from heart related diseases.
Then, as now, time is an issue so having your own small walking treadmill at home could be the answer. It's sitting right there waiting for when you have a minute to jump on and do a treadmill walking workout. It's light, it's portable, it's foldable and can fit easily under your bed, in a small room or office stored against the wall or in a cupboard.

Do vibration machines burn calories?
That is a great question and much research has actually been conducted on whether vibration machines for weight loss are the way to go. This subject and similar weight loss related topics are discussed on WebMD. When standing on a vibration plate the muscles in the body are basically contracting and relaxing multiple times per second to keep the body stable in a similar way to traditional exercise however in a much more accelerated fashion. In the same way that traditional exercise and strength training builds muscle mass, so too does vibration training through this contraction/relaxation of the muscles. In fact, a vibration plate will use up to 90% of the body's muscles at one time, so is very effective at building full body muscle mass. The weight loss results are primarily achieved through this strengthening of the muscle fibres, and then the subsequent increase in energy required for the muscles which burns more calories and fat, even in a resting state. Muscle burns more energy than fat, so the lower the body fat percentage and higher the muscle mass, the better for calorie burn.
Calories burned per session is dependent on a number of factors including personal weight/height/body composition, but also on the type of exercises being done on the vibration plate during a workout. For obvious reasons, a dynamic
