  2. Horizontal juicers - not just for juice

Horizontal juicers - not just for juice

Horizontal juicers are so much more than juicers

Did you know that horizontal juicers are not just for juicing? Juicers such as the BioChef Axis double as raw food processors. Not only can you make your favourite juices you can also enjoy, nut butters, sorbets, dips, pasta, bread sticks and more.

You can use horizontal BioChef juicers for most kitchen food processing tasks making them more versatile than a vertical juicer. If you have just had a baby the horizontal juicer will be your best friend in the kitchen quietly making fresh, nutritious baby foods to both eat now and store for later.

    Living Food Processors

Most cold press horizontal juicers such as the Oscar Neo 1000 and the Oscar Neo 12000 come with a variety of different attachments turning your juicer into a food processor. The mincing screen is used to puree, emulsify and crush the ingredients turning them into a paste or sauce. For example, basil, garlic, lemon, pine nuts, olive oil and Parmesan can be alternatively fed into the machine where it is crushed and extruded as a fresh living basil pesto. When made with the juicer you won't believe the taste of this pesto! It is completely different using a cold press juicer / living food

  3. Raw Food Desserts - Banana Sorbet with Almond Butter

Raw Food Desserts - Banana Sorbet with Almond Butter

Banana Sorbet with Almond Butter and cacao nibs

Raw food desserts are simple and fun to make and a great way to provide children with a sweet snack without sugar and all those other nasties. Also a great sweet snack when you are on a detox, trying to loose weight or simply wish to eat healthy.

    • 1 - 2 frozen bananas
    • 1 - 2 teaspoons of Cacao Nibs
    • 2 tablespoons Almond Butter

The Oscar Neo Cold Press Juicer can be so much fun to play with other than making juices. I invited a few friends over and asked each of them to bring a frozen fruit so we can test a few sorbet combos and this was simply my favourite. We were surprised of how full we felt after eating this and how sweet it was given there was no sugar, no dairy or any other nasties.

I love making this as a snack when I feel like something sweet because it is such a guilt free raw food dessert. It contains bananas which are high in antioxidants, a great fruit for the brain, helps digestion and a powerful snack before any workout. Almonds are also very good for you, when activated (soaked), they are easier to digest and our bodies can absorb the nutrients better. Almonds are great for the heart in reducing heart related disease and also help lower cholesterol and a good source of manganese and copper.

I also chose to add the infamous super food - Cacao Nibs just to add some extra goodness to this dessert. Cacao in its raw state is a great antioxidant neutralising free radicals, lowering blood pressure and improving blood circulation.

Please do try this at home! Simply put through a piece of banana, a spoonful of almond butter and some cacao nibs and repeat this several times until you've used all the banana

  4. Christmas family gift - helping to keep the peace

Christmas family gift - helping to keep the peace

Who ever said that Christmas Day was a day of peace and harmony obviously never had a family like mine. Help keep the peace by making sure sure your Christmas family gift doesn't stir the pot.

When you blend the whole family, under one roof, in the heat, for the entire day, with presents, cooking, drinking and game playing – it can be a recipe for disaster. Then why, oh why, is buying a family board game the top choice for a Christmas family gift?

After a few drinks and sugar highs someone will have the bright idea of actually playing the game and it will inevitably end in tears - it’s a Christmas tradition and the number one cause of family fall outs on Christmas Day. I still have scars from Pictionary.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be like this. Although our range of healthy living kitchen products may not seem like a lot of fun as you are ripping off the wrapping they could help to ensure that your Christmas is more peaceful. Oh and delicious too.

    Bought too much food?

Another cause of stress on Christmas Day is either the time spent cooking when the kitchen is hotter than your oven and what to do with all those left overs. Ever bought enough fruit to cover three pavlovas when you only needed enough for one? Or two of them fell to pieces during delicate stages of cooking? Maybe you dropped one?

When everyone heats up the BioChef blender will be a santa-send and perfect Christmas

  5. Battling cancer but lost your appetite?

Battling cancer but lost your appetite?

When my mum was battling cancer she would not eat. Nothing could tempt her. Not even her favourite foods. Not even Peking Duck which she loved beyond all reason. People would come with containers of curries, pastas, soups and more to fill up the freezer. Very kind of them, of course, but when we heard they were coming back we had to throw it away and pretend she had eaten it. Caused a few heated confrontations with relatives I can assure you.

I remember the one and only thing that she wanted was a ‘lemonade spider’, cancer, lemonade spiderremember those? Basically just lemonade with a scoop of ice cream… easy, yes but not very nutritious. So that got me thinking. There must be many other people out there who just don’t feel like eating when they are unwell. They want the benefits of healthy, healing foods to help them fight the big C or any other illness, so what to do? They also  want it to be refreshing and taste good too. Very demanding.

    Cancer Council

According to the Cancer Council research suggests that eating well benefits people during and after cancer treatment. It can help to maintain muscle strength, maintain a healthy weight and have more energy, all of which can improve your quality of life. Good nutrition can also help to:

    • manage the side effects of treatment and speed up recovery
    • heal wounds and rebuild damaged tissues – this is

  6. Compare: BioChef Axis vs BioChef Axis Compact

Compare: BioChef Axis vs BioChef Axis Compact

Compare: BioChef Axis & BioChef Axis Compact Juicers

BioChef is excited to announce the newest product to their Cold Press Juicer range - the BioChef Axis Compact Juicer. Perfect for beginners, this juicer allows the user to juicer a wide variety of fruits and vegetables while being compact and lightweight in design. But what about the original BioChef Axis Cold Press Juicer? How does the new BioChef Axis Compact juicer compare to the already popular BioChef Axis? Read on to find out more.

There are five main differences between the BioChef Axis Compact and the BioChef Axis Cold Press Juicer. These include the motor type, size and weight of the product, food processing abilities, warranty, and the price.

    Motor:
Both the BioChef Axis Compact and the BioChef Axis Cold Press Juicer have 150w motors and run at 80RPM, however the difference between these two machines is motor type. The BioChef Axis Juicer has a D.C. motor, meaning it is not as ‘heavy duty’ as the BioChef Axis’ A.C. motor.

A D.C. motor has been used in the BioChef Axis Compact juicer to keep the size, weight and price of the juicer down; making it the perfect cold press juicer for those just starting out in ‘cold press juicing world’, for travelers, staff rooms, university dorm rooms, and smaller sized kitchens.

    Food Processing Abilities:
One of the unique benefits of the BioChef Axis Cold Press Juicer is that it can juice a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and then quickly turn itself into a food processing machine by the simple switch of the juicing screen to a blank screen. This allows the food to be crushed by the auger and puree the ingredients to make natu

  7. Best usage tips for a slow juicer

Best usage tips for a slow juicer

A new type of juicer has arrived which is commonly called a vertical cold pressing or 'slow' juicer.

They sit in the same category as other juicers that produce a juice which is still full of essential enzymes, nutrients and vitamins (The Hippocrates Twin Gear, Oscar Neo 1000, Oscar Vital Max and the Vertical Juicer models (700, 500 and 400)).

These slow juicers differ from the Hippocrates and Oscar models in that they:

    • are primarily fruit and vegetable juicers
    • have a larger feeding chute
    • make remarkable alternative milk drinks (such as nut or soy milks)
    • are the fastest producers of juice even though they still operate at the RPM's which prevents enzyme and nutrient loss.

Here are some tips to get the best out of the Hurom models of juicers.

    1) Juice less fibrous produce first. Begin with carrots, beetroot, watermelon, apples and then add the more stringy produce such as celery or leafy greens. Tear or cut up the more fibrous vegetables into smaller pieces.

    2) Make it easy on the machine. Even though this series of vertical slow juicers have a wider feeding chute than most other cold pressed juicers, a few simple steps will ensure an easier process. Cut carrots on an angle to further help the self feeding process, and cut larger produce such as apples into smaller pieces. Remember, you can find a whole apple juicer, but much of the goodness is degraded due to the harsh grating and high speed spinning friction.

    3) Feed leafy greens in without crunching them up. This allows the

  8. Champion Juicer Review

    Champion Juicer Review

The Champion Juicer has been one of the most popular and well-known cold press or masticating juicers over the last few decades and for good reason. In this Champion Juicer Review we will outline the features and benefits of the Champion Juicer and help you to decide whether the Champion is the best juicer for your needs!

The Champion Juicer was first developed in 1955 by Plastaket, a US family-owned company who to this day still manufacture the Champion Juicer. Since then, the Champion Juicer has been continuously refined and developed to improve it's efficiency and usability. The continued development of the Champion's food processing capabilities have made the Champion Juicer a household favourite.

The latest model, the Champion 2000+ Juicer, has the ability to create frozen fruit desserts, purees, baby foods, nut butters and more. Also, there is now an optional Champion Grain Mill Attachment and multiple Champion Greens Attachments which simply locks into the motor of the Champion. The Champion is the only cold press juicer which can re-invent itself to mill grains and we still regard the Champion to be the best juicer for making frozen fruit desserts!

How does the Champion perform as a juicer?

The Champion is a very powerful masticating juicer. In it's simplest form, a masticating juicer works by shredding or chewing the fruits and vegetables with a fine cutter which is then passed through a seive. The Champion 2000+ will effectively juice soft and hard fruits and vegetables. The colour of the juice extracted with a Champion is a beautifully rich colour and has a full-bodied taste. The pulp is very dry and pale. This is an indication of quality of the juice extracted.

The optional 'Greens' attachment is also available for juicing green and fibrous vegetables like spinach,

  9. Hippocrates Juicer Review

    Hippocrates Juicer Review

Our Hippocrates Juicer Review will outline the features of the newest model Hippocrates Juicer, the Hippocrates Plus 1305, and also a brief history of how this model came to be. But first, it is important to understand the science behind twin gear juicer technology and why the juice exracted from a twin gear juicer is far superior to that of any other juicer on the market today.

In it's simplest form, the twin gears utilize both magnetic and bio-ceramic technology to generate an overflow of positive ions which increases the longevity and quality of juice. Also, the closer together the twin gears sit to one another, increases the amount of the cellulose wall that is opened during the extraction process. This suspends the nutrients and enzymes in colloidal form and makes them more accessible for the body to use.

You can read the full article on 'What is a Twin Gear Juicer' here.

Roger Akins, Founder and CEO of Vitality 4 Life, and Brian Clement of the Hippocrates Health Institute in Florida worked together with Mr. Kim, the inventor of the GreenPower Juicer, to improve his current version of the Twin Gear Juicer. Together they developed the techincal improvements needed to decrease the juicing limitations of the previous models of GreenPower Juicers. The result was the Hippocrates Juicer.

You can view the full 'History of a GreenPower Twin Gear Juicer' here.

The Hippocrates Twin Gear Juicer, as it is today, is the outcome of over 5 years worth of testing and perfecting and over 50 prototypes. Vast improvements have been made to it's juicing capabilities, extraction rate and the machines usability.

The newly designed "Jang Gears" sit at only 4/1000 of an inch apart. This has increased both the extraction time

Vitality 4 Life 2016 Cold Press Juicer Review

This web page is your portal to all of our information on cold press juicers. You will be able to visit our cold press juicer review pages from this page including technical data, industry evolution, glossary of terms, features, benefits, product comparison tables and more.

    What is Living Juice?

The concept of living juice was first introduced by Dr. Norman Walker (1886-1985) who invented the original cold press juicer in 1934 known as the Norwalk. Dr Walker discovered that enzymes and nutrients in fruit and vegetables perish at temperatures which exceed 50 degrees Celsius.

Tests performed claim that non-centrifugal juicers produce juice that lasts longer and contains more nutrients. These tests showed that the juice from cold press juicers contains more nutrients; and in fact the Hippocrates juicer by Greenpower contains well over double the beta-carotene and alpha-carotene than the juice from every other juicer in their test… and it lasted longer.

Juice from non-centrifugal juicers tends not to separate, smells fresh and looks palatable even after 48 hours in the fridge, indicating less oxidation.

As a society, we are recognizing that essential nutrition is provided simply by changing our diet to a more simple, plant-based one which easily outweighs the convenience of over processed and fast foods. We are hungry for nutrients, not hungry for food and there is no turning back.

It comes from the ground up. People have the consumer power to ask for change about where their food comes from and how they want it prepared. With this shift, we have seen appliances evolve from mere providers of convenience, to work with nature to release the best nutrients in the food, to save waste through efficiency and save time.

So.. how do cold press juicers work?

Cold press juicers operate at a lower speed which in turn, reduces friction heat, thereby creating what has been termed a a cold pressed or living juice. With
