What to look for when purchasing a blender:
- Minimum 2 Horsepower Motor
- Long Warranty
- Quality Japanese Stainless Steel Blades
We would only classify a "high powered" blender as one with a motor of at least 2 horse power. It is this power which enables the blender to pulverize the ingredients so effectively.
A blender is a workhorse machine; one which you will use everyday and it will need to work and work for you. Only a high powered blender will stand the test of time, and while you may spend more money to purchase the product initially, the blender will pay for itself in terms of durability and longevity. It is important to look for a blender with a long and fair warranty as you want this product to last.
The blades are what make a blender blend, and without high quality blades the machine will not blend properly! It is simple but true. Look for Japanese steel blades when purchasing a blender as Japanese steel is the highest quality steel in the world and the blades will remain sharp for the life of the blender.

Which is the Best Blender?
Both machines are capable of making and blending the same things - smoothies, hot soups, frozen fruit ice creams, nut butters etc. We have all seen the demonstrations, but when it really comes down to it - what's it really like when you get the product home?
The BioChef Living Blender takes the guesswork out of blending, with 6 pre-set programs (cook soups, chop vegetables, hot beverages, coffee & grain grinding, make condiments & blend smoothies) which allows to simply put the ingredients in, press a button and the machine does all of the work for you. The Bio Chef has an advanced computer controlled system inside that knows the exact changes required in speed and power to get the perfect consistency every time. The computer will even detect resistance in the jug, so it will increase the power used if it feels resistance and decrease if it's an easy movement.
Obviously when you are looking for a high performance or high powered blender; you want a powerful machine which is robust and will blend and blend. You want a machine that will pulverize any ingredient you throw at it with ease and precision including ice, grains, whole fruits, fibrous green vegetables and more. Both the BioChef Living Blender and the Vitamix Total Nutrition Centre are geared to do just that.
However, when a machine comes with a commercial warranty - you know this machine means business and is designed to blend non-stop, time and time again. The BioChef Living Blender comes with a 1 year commercial warranty where as the Vitamix does not come with a commercial warranty and Vitamix machines which come with this are upwards of $1500-$3000.
High Quality Blades
Both the Vitamix and the BioChef Living Blender have Japanese Stainless Steel Blades, which is the highest quality steel in the world. The difference between the blades in the Vitamix and BioChef is that the Vitamix has a 4 pronged blade system whilst the BioChef Living Blender has a 6 pronged system. The BioChef Living Blender also has 2 smaller central blades which point up, meaning you could literally drop a whole apple in and watch it pulverize instantly. With the Vitamix the apple would spin on top of the relatively flat blades. The added blades also helps the machine to blend more efficiently as the produce is pulverized before it reaches the 2nd/lower level of blades, creating a more even consistency.
