Glucose is the body's basic source of fuel and is vital for survival. Insulin is then needed to regulate the glucose levels in the body. Insulin is produced in the pancreas and acts as a messenger to instruct the body's cells to absorb glucose, in effect reducing blood glucose levels and maintaining a health blood glucose level. Diabetes means that the body either can't produce insulin or insufficient amounts of it.

Apples help to regulate blood sugar levels as they contain compounds help tackle diabetes in 3 ways:

  • Decrease the absorption of glucose from the digestive tract
  • Stimulate the beta cells in the pancreas to secrete insulin
  • Increase uptake/redistribution of glucose from your blood by stimulating insulin receptors

In particular, women are more receptive and studies suggest that women who eat 1 apple per day could lower their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 28%!

While most fruit juices can lead to rapid spikes in blood sugar levels for diabetics, cold press apple juice actually has the reverse affect! This is due to the large amount of fibre in apples, which slows down the absorption rate and reduces the surge in blood sugar levels. We always recommend green apples as the fruit of choice for adding a little bit of sweetness to any cold press vegetable juice.

3. Diarrhea & Constipation Cure

On average an adult requires around 25-30gm of fibre per day to maintain healthy digestion and consistent bowel movements. Ensuring your body consistently receives the right amount of fibre every day is important to help maintain normal digestion without over-doing or under-doing it which can lead to either constipation or diarrhea. It is also important to ensure sufficient fluid is also consumed to help the fibre to flow through the body and work its magic! Drink fresh cold press apple juice is the perfect way to allow the body to access the fibre quickly and efficiently in a liquid form. Apple juice can even act as a mild laxative. But why white-fleshed fruits? White-fleshed fruits such as apples, bananas, cucumbers or pears contain an antioxidant chemical called quercetin which is attributed to reducing inflammation. Inflammation is linked to the hardening of arteries which in turn can cause blood clots which limit the blood flow to the brain and thus cause a stroke.

Combining apples with celery is the perfect "anti-inflammation" juice!
